August 24

Universal Studios baby!!! Oh yes, there is nothing like walking around an amusement park with two kids in 36 degree heat and intense sunshine! In fact it was great.

We used the Sentosa Island free shuttle bus to travel the short distance to Universal Studios. The park is actually very small, compared to anything I’ve seen before. It is very clean, and well organized, but still very small. There are a few sections, the first of which is Shrek Land. We saw an awesome 4D movie, that included moving seats, water being sprayed on us, spiders tickling our feet, and air blowing on the backs of our necks. It was really terrific.

After that, it was off to the rides. My kids are total daredevils on amusement rides. They do roller coasters and every manner of ride with absolutely no fear. Normally Danny goes with them, ‘cause I’m a total chickensh** when it comes to roller coasters. The good thing is, both kids are fearless, so as long as they met the height requirements, they went on pretty much every ride. The only ones that were out of bounds were the adult-only roller coasters.

I kept asking the girls if they wanted food, and they kept saying ‘no’. They drank several very expensive slushies, and we kept riding and walking, it was fantastic!

We actually made two rounds of the entire park in about 4 hours. It was great fun. Then the girls were finally hungry, and guess what they wanted. Yeah, that probably took you about 2 seconds. Yes, we went to Lui’s Pizzeria on “New York” street in Universal. Actually, though I’m loathe to admit it, the pizza was actually very good, but super expensive.

Have I mentioned that Singapore is freaking expensive? Geez, every darn thing is ridiculously expensive.

After pizza it was as if the girls had recharged batteries, ‘cause they wanted to go on tons more rides. Holy crap, I was getting seriously tired!

Ok, so I had this brilliant idea that we should go on a ride called the Canopy Flyer. We’d tried earlier in the day but given up since it was closed due to “technical difficulties”. I’m pretty sure that was code for “someone puked on the ride and we have to clean it up”. We got into the line, and it wasn’t too long, and got on the ride. Oh. Em. Gee. Holy Crap. Whose idea was this?????? Oh yeah, it was mine. Stupid woman.

The ride was seriously fast, and basically an elevated roller coaster. I was freaking out, scared to death and screaming like a baby according to Stephanie. And she, for the record was about falling off the ride laughing at me! Seriously, little bugger admitted she nearly pee’d her pants laughing at me!

We did a couple of rounds of the Accelerator—the Universal Studios equivalent of the Tea Cup ride. Spins you round and round, at high speed, til you nearly puke up your pizza. All kinds of special!

The girls finally called “uncle” after 6pm, since being there from 10:45am. What a long fun day we’ve had. It was great fun. You definitely would never need a 2-day pass since the park is really tiny and definitely do-able in one day. It was super clean, though, and very well organized. We were fortunate that we were able to go on a weekday, after the local Singapore kids have already started back to school, so it wasn’t terribly busy either. The lineups were quite reasonable.

By the time we got back to the hotel, both kids were ratty and tired, so we just came up and watched some tv. We had really late lunch and no dinner, so I suspect we’ll all be awake early and hungry tomorrow.
