So, what do you do when Hong Kong issues an Extreme Heat AND Air Quality advisory? Why you go to Disneyland of course, and walk around in the extreme heat and bad air!!!

Yes, we did! And it was terrific!!! We were a bit later getting going than expected, but still go to Disney in the morning. Wow, the word “hot” didn’t really do it justice!

The place was crowded, so the wait times were longer than I’d like, but in typical kid fashion, they were undaunted. In fact, all Emily and Stephanie wanted was rides and rides and rides, and cold drinks and rides.

Guess whose 7 year old rode on Space Mountain roller coaster this year? If you’re thinking mine, you’d be correct. Geez, my freaking kids have no fear. They put me to shame. I’m a total chicken when it comes to roller coasters!! This was Stephy’s first year of being tall enough to ride it, and she just barely was tall enough, but she was ready for it and had a marvelous time!

The one big failure in the day was the Autopia, car racing ride. It’s hugely popular here, especially because so many people never ever drive in real life, so the lineup was over 45 minutes long. We all waited, and everything was fine, until we got to the front of the line, and Stephanie realized that I was going to ride with Emily and she got daddy. Not going to work for her. She’s “glued” to me lately. She was hysterical, crying and carrying around the entire way around the circuit. Poor Danny didn’t bargain on that. Meantime, Emily rather expertly drove me around the race circuit, telling me the instructions daddy had given her years previous and doing a pretty fantastic job!! The kid is going to be ready long before she’s 16 and can get a learners license.

We even missed the parade this year. Frankly we weren’t that keen anyway, because the theme was Cars 2 and my kids have no interest. But we didn’t miss it on purpose, we were just busy doing rides, and when we stopped to ask a Cast Member when the parade would be, he laughed and said we’d just missed it. Oh well.

We shopped some, and did tons more rides, including the teacups, and Buzz Lightyear game.

Danny and I both commented that our kids are less interested in Disneyland this time around and it’s going to get less and less interesting. It’s so very small that they mostly have rides for younger kids. Other than Space Mountain, there are no other “big kid/adult” rides. I have a feeling there aren’t many Hong Kong Disneyland visits in our future! They are spoiled by Canada’s Wonderland and it’s selection of roller coasters and scarier rides!!! Daredevils!

We were still at the park after dark, and it started to rain, finally, for some relief from the heat. We’d pretty much had enough anyway, so we hopped on the dedicated Disneyland MTR and headed back to the city. Rather than come back to the hotel and then fight to get the kids back out for a meal, we called ahead and went straight to our favourite hotpot place. Believe it or not, even after all day in the heat and sun, the kids were really good. They were hungry and tired, but behaved quite well. Amazing that that can happen so easily when there aren’t 4000 people yelling at them and touching them eh? Sarcastic much? Yes, I am, thanks!
