Kind of pathetic that I’m excited if Stephanie stays
asleep until almost 6:00am eh? Pathetic but true. Today, she almost made
it. Almost. And I almost cried when Emily called at 8:50 to say she’d
just hauled her lazy bum out of bed!! Geez, when can I sleep in?
Danny had made arrangements to meet with his two aunts and his mother down in Central at the memorial to his father, grandmother, etc. It’s only about a 15min walk from our hotel, so the girls and I opted out, and agreed to come down and meet them for lunch. When we got there, of course they weren’t finished, so we had to go into the memorial building. It’s not air conditioned, so about 40 degrees cool, and not a fun experience. The kids were really good, though, and quickly participated in some rituals, then we left. Downstairs from there is a dumpling and soup shop that Danny’s mother likes. I think it’s WAY over priced for tiny little portions, and full of msg, but she likes it. The kids didn’t like the soup, and I ate the noodles from mine, but could feel the msg stinging my tongue, so lunch wasn’t so successful, but it was not optional, so we did it. After eating, the older women wanted to walk over to shop at a bbq place nearby so we had to walk over with them. Oh yeah, while at the memorial, Danny’s aunt asked the kids if they wanted to come to her home for dinner and they said yes. Geez, another freaking dinner obligation. We’ve been here for days and I still haven’t had the dinner I want. It was pouring rain by the time we finally got away from the aunties, so we slipped into Marks and Spencers for a bit. Didn’t buy much of anything, except some cookies and candies, and a few undershirts for Emily for winter. I don’t know why we have such trouble finding nice undershirts in Canada, but I can find lovely ones here in this tropical country, but it’s true. I buy them every year. By the time we’d finished in M&S (like 15mins tops) the heavy rain was done, and the sun was out again. That’s the weather we get here in August. Heavy rain, every couple of days, but lasts only a short time, and hot sun right after. The kids needed the bathroom, and McD’s was nearby, so we stopped in. You know how McD’s is mostly empty in Canada? Well, it’s still hugely popular here in Hong Kong, like it was in the 70’s in Canada. The lineups are huge, and they have a woman directing traffic in the lineups. She was really ticked at us taking photos too, but that didn’t stop me! One of the other photos is a bit shiny, sorry, but it was taken while on a moving escalator. Pizza Hut offers these really nasty pizza combos here…with ham, corn, pineapple, and all kinds of other crap on it. Even the photos look disgusting. Back to the hotel for swimming in the afternoon. All four of us hit the pool to cool off and the kids were really happy ‘cause they met some English speaking kids to play with today. Unfortunately, my stomach is troubled after the hotpot experience last night so I’m feeling rather nasty. I begged off dinner at auntie’s house, since I’m not likely to eat anything anyway, so Danny and the kids went on their own. The kids report having a good dinner, that went on very long into the evening. By the time they got back, it was well past bedtime, so Stephy quickly changed and brushed teeth and was in bed sound asleep within minutes! |
